List of Some Users in South Africa
All valves are operating in pipelines handling abrasive media. Vaal Reefs Gold Mine
This mine has a large number of Corflex Pinch Valves of different sizes from 50mm to 500mm operating at different pressures. The first valves were installed in 1982 and are still being regularly installed on new projects and to replace other type valves which require high maintenance.
In 1985 46 x 500mm Corflex Pinch Valves supplied for two tailings dams. To date only 3 sleeves have been replaced. All valves still installed and working.
In many instances Corflex Pinch Valves have been used to replace rubber lined plug valves and gate valves which were maintenance intensive.
Many hundreds of Corflex Pinch Valves are installed on their tailings or residue pipelines and in their slurry pump stations.
East Rand Gold & Uranium Co. Ltd (Ergo)
The Ergo operation is the treatment of old slimes dams for the extraction of gold, uranium and pyrite. It involves the pumping of large quantities of slurry at varying densities and pH values. The two main plants treat nearly 4 000 000 tons of tailings per month.
Ergo has a large number of Corflex Pinch Valves of different sizes from 75mm to 450mm operating at different pressures including 300mm at 50 Bar and 350mm at 30 Bar. The first valves were installed in 1982 and are still regularly installed on new projects. Nearly all their major pump stations are fitted with Corflex Pinch Valves.
In many instances Corflex Pinch Valves have been used to replace plug valves, sliding disc valves and other steel valves, which required frequent maintenance.
Free State Consolidated Gold Mines (Freegold)
This group of Anglo American mines have been installing Corflex Pinch Valves since 1983.
The sizes range from 50mm to 500mm. The pressures range from 5 Bar to 25 Bar. Corflex Pinch Valves have been used to replace plug valves and other type valves which required frequent maintenance.
In 1990 2 x 500mm Corflex Pinch Valves were installed in a pipeline to pump gold mine tailings to the President Brand Gold Plant. The operating pressure of these valves was 22 Bar. During the 5 year lifetime of the pump station only one sleeve was replaced which was caused by a faulty hydraulic power pack. The valves have been reclaimed for use on a new "super" gold plant project.
Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine
Large number of 250mm, 300mm and 350mm Corflex Pinch Valves installed in tailings pipelines and at pump stations since 1984. Working pressures up to 18 Bar.
Hartebeesfontein Gold Mine
Corflex Pinch Valves installed on all major slurry pipelines when new Gold Plant built in 1986. Corflex Pinch Valves still being installed on applications where other type valves require frequent maintenance.
In 1991 4 x 200mm Corflex Pinch Valves were installed at their residue pump station. The operating pressure is 20 Bar. The valves replaced rubber lined gate valves which were maintenance intensive.
To date these valves have operated without maintenance and the pay back period for this installation was 3 months.
Western Deep Levels Gold Mine
This mine has been installing Corflex Pinch Valves since 1982 in sizes from 150mm to 350mm.
When the new gold plant at no.1 Shaft was built in 1985, 250mm Corflex Pinch Valves were installed at the residue pump station and 350mm valves on the ring main around the new tailings dam. All valves are still installed and working.
In the no.2 gold plant Corflex Pinch Valves are installed on the residue pump stations and backfill operation.
The mine generally installs Corflex Pinch Valves in applications where other valves require frequent maintenance.
Crown Mines ( Rand Mines)
This installation consists of two main plants which treats old gold slimes dams. It was commissioned in 1986. All residue and outside pump stations were fitted with Corflex Pinch Valves. The sizes range from 150mm to 500mm and pressures from 3 Bar to 25 Bar. Included are 300, 350 and 400mm valves operating at pressures up to 25 Bar. When new outside pump stations are built Corflex Pinch Valves are used.
Buffelsfontein Gold Mine
6 x 300mm delivery valves for a pressure of 20 Bar and 2 x 400mm suction valves installed on a new residue pump station in 1995. To date have required no maintenance.
BSasol 2 (1988)
Approximately 200 Corflex Pinch Valves of sizes 150mm to 350mm have been installed on various coal ash pipelines since 1984. When a new ash dam was built in 1988 40 x 150mm, 20 x 250mm and 33 x 300mm valves were installed. To date two spare sleeve has been bought for these valves.
Sasol 2 (2002)
8 x 300mm heavy duty hydraulically operated Corflex Pinch Valves and 6 x 250mm heavy duty Corflex Pinch Valves fitted with handwheel operated gear reducers installed on the ash dams for a working pressure of 30 Bar.
Sasol 1
22 x 200mm Corflex Pinch Valves bought for a new coal ash dam installation in 1992. All valves still installed and working.
Beatrix Gold Mine
2 x 300mm hydraulically operated Corflex Pinch Valves installed at residue pump station in 1987 for a working pressure of 20 Bar. In November 1995 the pump station was extended and two more 300mm hydraulically operated Corflex Pinch Valves for the same pressure were installed. The former two valves still installed and working.
A number of Corflex Pinch Valves are also installed elsewhere on this mine.
De Beers Diamond Mine - Kimberly
300mm and 350mm hydraulically operated Corflex Pinch Valves have been installed on a number of residue pump stations at pressures up to + 12 Bar since 1985.
Venetia Diamond Mine
When this mine was commissioned in 1991 200mm and 250mm hydraulically operated Corflex Pinch Valves were installed in the residue pump station for a pressure of + 20 Bar. The tailings dam and pipeline valves are also Corflex Pinch Valves. In a further extension Corflex Pinch Valves were used.
Rustenburg Platinum Mines
The main residue pump station valves are two 450mm hydraulically operated Corflex Pinch Valves operating at pressures up to 18 Bar. Installed in 1985 to date one sleeve has been replaced. Many Corflex Pinch Valves of various sizes installed on this mine.
